The Seven Habits – Habits 2 & 3

Once you have dedicated yourself to being proactive, you can move on to habit number two. The message of this was that in order to know how to act and what to do, you need to have goals in mind. This isn’t referring to specific things necessarily, like get into x university, or date y person, it is more talking about things like be more honest, procrastinate less, or finish my big art project. Every goal has a cost and a payoff, so the chapter featured helpful tips on how to build up to bigger goals, and break down the cost and payoff, so you don’t end up with an unmet goal and an empty PBA. Another point made by the chapter was the importance of reassessing your goals regularly, making sure that they aligned with your personality, strengths, and interest.

To make the most of your time, you need to organise important tasks in a way that allows you to execute them efficiently and without stressing yourself out. This chapter outlines the quadrants of time management, such as procrastinating, getting distracted and slacking off. Of these quadrants, the most admirable of these is the prioritiser. This is someone who can identify the major hurdles coming in the future, and create an ordered procedure to tackle all of them, before they become an issue. Organising your life like this using a planner or something similar allows you to then grow and push yourself, to step out of your comfort zone. I really liked this chapter as it outlined some very easy to implement tips on some of my weakest points in organisation.
